The Devo Babas rugby team is embracing a new chapter as they gear up for the 2026 McDonald’s Coral Coast Fiji 7s with an entirely fresh roster. Following a commendable performance last year, where they progressed to the quarter-finals but fell short against the Fiji 7s team, the Devo Babas are now reorganizing to adapt to significant changes in their lineup.

This year, the team has incorporated 12 new young players as several members from the previous squad have transitioned to different teams or focused on other commitments. Team manager Isoa Natui highlighted that this shift was largely prompted by disciplinary issues among the former players, necessitating a reevaluation of the team’s structure.

Out of last year’s roster, only two players remain, with the majority of the new recruits set to experience their first Coral Coast 7s tournament. Natui expressed confidence in the new players, stating, “We have been in camp for two weeks, our preparations have been going well, and the new players are focused to showcase their talent.” He views this as an invaluable opportunity for them to exhibit their skills alongside established rugby stars.

The team is composed of players selected from various clubs, including representatives from Nadroga and Yasawa. Despite the challenges of integrating a new squad, the Devo Babas are determined to give their best performance at this prestigious tournament. “As we all know, this is the biggest 7s tournament in Fiji. It will be a tough encounter, but we have faith in the team,” Natui remarked.

As they say goodbye to their former teammates, the Devo Babas are rallying support from their families and the local community, which has been instrumental in their preparations for the tournament. This renewed spirit and commitment signal a hopeful outlook for the team, as they aim to make a memorable impact in the upcoming competition.
