The Devo Babas rugby team is filled with optimism as they gear up to defend their title at this year’s Fiji Bitter Savusavu 7s tournament, commencing this week. Last year, they clinched victory over the TEMC Warriors with a 15-7 score in the finals held at Ganilau Park, showcasing their prowess and resilience on the field.
This season, however, marks a notable shift for the Devo Babas as they navigate the transition of several experienced players moving on to different teams and new endeavors. In light of this change, the team has successfully recruited 12 young players who are eager to make their mark in the tournament.
The newcomers have already demonstrated their potential by reaching the quarterfinals at the Coral Coast 7s, where they stood out as formidable competitors. As the Devo Babas focus on the challenges that lie ahead in Savusavu, team manager Isoa Natui has acknowledged the importance of blending experience with youthful energy.
“Our preparations have been progressing smoothly, and the young players are determined to showcase their abilities on the field,” Natui remarked. He emphasized the opportunity this tournament presents for the new recruits to step up and play a pivotal role in the team’s bid for success as defending champions.
Natui also expressed gratitude to Jacks of Fiji, the team’s sponsor, whose support has been instrumental in enabling the Devo Babas to defend their title. The team is excited and thankful for the backing of their loyal supporters and encourages the public to come out and cheer for them in Savusavu.
The tournament kicks off tomorrow and will run through Saturday, promising thrilling rugby action as the Devo Babas vie to maintain their champion status. With a mix of fresh talent and the experienced core, the team looks poised to take on any challenge that comes their way.
