A new police post has been inaugurated in Denarau, Nadi, aimed at enhancing security and deterring criminal activities in one of Fiji’s premier tourist destinations. Funded by Denarau Corporation Ltd, this facility is designed to bolster police operations and ensure the safety of tourists, residents, and businesses alike.

During the commissioning event, Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu highlighted that the new police post would significantly increase police visibility and strengthen the Tourism Police Unit, particularly in high traffic areas frequented by visitors. “Tourism is one of the country’s leading revenue earners, and our focus is to enhance our tourism policing capabilities to support the safety and security of visitors,” he stated.

Commissioner Tudravu also expressed gratitude to Denarau Corporation Ltd, its directors, management, and hoteliers for their ongoing support, acknowledging that discussions regarding an increased police presence on the island have been in motion for some time.

Denarau Corporation Ltd’s general manager, Nesbitt Hazelman, emphasized the necessity of the police presence, citing Denarau’s significant economic contributions to the tourism industry and the broader Fijian economy. “Denarau is a key driver of the tourism industry, and it’s essential that our investors and residents feel safe and have access to police assistance when needed,” he noted.

Hazelman described the establishment of the police post as both a crime deterrent and a crucial reassurance for stakeholders on the island. He reiterated that the corporation has ensured that the police are equipped with the necessary facilities to operate effectively. A robust police presence, he added, would be instrumental in supporting hoteliers, businesses, and residents in fostering a secure environment.

The addition of this police post represents a proactive step towards enhancing visitor safety and supporting the local economy, promising a bright future for tourism in Denarau.
