The Lami Darts Association proudly hosted its first tournament today at the Fiji Club in Suva since its revival following the Covid-19 lockdown nearly five years ago. This marks a significant moment for the association and the sport of darts in the region, as it seeks to re-establish itself in the sporting community.
Association president Vinesh Prasad expressed immense pride in this achievement, noting their aspirations to organize more events later this year. The tournament was made possible thanks to a timely sponsorship agreement with the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), which Prasad acknowledged in his remarks, saying, “Firstly, I would like to thank LICI for their timely support, allowing us to get this tournament up and running. The turnout has been good.”
The event features over 60 players competing in a two-day tournament consisting of 32 teams. The initial matches included pool games, and all knockout stages along with the final are set to take place tomorrow.
This revitalization of the darts scene in Fiji aligns with growing enthusiasm for the sport, supported by various sponsors. Previous tournaments, such as the South Pacific Darts Championship, have indicated an escalating interest in darts, offering players the opportunity to showcase their skills while competing at a higher level. The ongoing commitment from LICI provides optimism for a bright future in this sport, allowing more individuals to get involved and promoting a sense of community in competitive play.
With such developments, the prospects for darts in Fiji look promising, bringing together players from diverse backgrounds and fostering greater participation in competitive sports. As the Lami Darts Association looks to host additional tournaments, the future of darts appears to be on a positive trajectory, encouraging local talent and propelling the sport to new heights.
