Cricket Fiji has welcomed Australian high-performance coach Sanjiv Dubey for a short-term training camp aimed at preparing the national Under-19 team for the upcoming East Asia Pacific World Cup qualifiers in Japan this April. The camp, which began on January 8 and is set to conclude on January 25, is taking place at Albert Park in Suva.

Dubey, who is in his third year working with Cricket Fiji, emphasized the importance of a holistic approach to player development. In a recent interview, he highlighted that the training sessions would focus on enhancing the players’ core skills, with support from local coaches. He stated, “We need to invest time and effort into our development if we want to advance beyond just participating in tournaments.”

In addition to the Under-19 squad, the training camp is open to female cricketers currently engaged in the 2024/25 Women’s T20 League competition, promoting inclusivity within the sport. Dubey expressed admiration for the character and eagerness displayed by the young athletes, noting, “The energy and the learning are at the highest level when one works with good, humble, and simple people.”

This strategic initiative not only aims to enhance the skills of young cricketers but also seeks to elevate Cricket Fiji’s profile in international cricket. With a commitment to nurturing talent and fostering a supportive environment, Cricket Fiji is paving the way for a promising future in the sport.

Overall, this training camp represents a significant investment in the region’s cricketing landscape, aimed at fostering excellence and inclusivity, which bodes well for the future of cricket in Fiji.
