A couple has been brought before the Suva Magistrates Court facing allegations of defrauding the Fiji Rugby Union. Pawan Deo, a former accountant for the Fiji Rugby Union, and his wife Subhashni Mudaliar are charged with conspiracy to defraud, obtaining a financial gain, and obtaining an advantage.
During the court proceedings, it was revealed that Deo, as the owner of Sports Supplies Limited and the FRU’s accountant, conspired with his wife to unlawfully secure $53,788.75 from the union. The alleged fraudulent activities took place in 2022, during which they are accused of improperly facilitating payments to Sports Supplies Limited, leading to the company receiving $7,291.83 despite knowing it was not entitled to that amount.
The Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption stated that the couple appeared in court yesterday, where they were remanded. A bail hearing for the case was scheduled for today.
