Three men have been found guilty of the manslaughter of a 56-year-old bus driver, following a violent confrontation that occurred on October 3, 2020. The defendants, Mikaele Vuiwayavi, Josateki Rabuku, and Isikeli Tawake, faced Justice Daniel Goundar in court on December 4.
The incident began when Tawake claimed he was struck by the bus’s side mirror, prompting an aggressive response from him and Rabuku, who confronted the victim, Subhas Chand. In a brutal attack, they punched Chand multiple times, leading to a desperate attempt by Chand to defend himself using a tool. However, Vuiwayavi escalated the situation further by stabbing Chand with an umbrella, inflicting critical injuries. Chand tragically passed away from his wounds on October 9, 2020.
Justice Goundar determined that the actions of all three men significantly contributed to Chand’s death. As a result, they have been denied bail and will remain in custody until their case proceeds, with their sentencing hearing now postponed to December 11.
This case highlights the severe consequences of unchecked aggression and the importance of resolving conflicts without violence. The judicial process will continue to ensure that justice is served for the victim and his family, providing a sense of closure in the face of such a tragic event.
