Community on Edge After Teen Drug Attempt Near Nausori Bridge

Police are looking into a troubling incident where a 17-year-old boy was approached by two teenagers under the old Nausori bridge, who attempted to inject him with illicit drugs. According to a family member’s social media post, while the victim was walking, the two teens blocked his path, with one brandishing a needle and demanding he inject himself. Fortunately, the situation escalated, causing the assailants to flee when members of the public came to the scene.

Assistant Commissioner of Police for Crime, Mesake Waqa, has announced that the Crime Officer in Nausori has been assigned to lead the investigation. In light of this incident, the Fiji Police have urged anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity on Tuesday afternoon, specifically between 4 PM and 5 PM, to contact Crimestoppers at 919.

This alarming event highlights growing concerns within the community about youth safety, as prior events have revealed parents’ anxiety regarding drug-related incidents among students. Previous reports have indicated cases of students being found under the influence of drugs, prompting calls for stronger safety measures in schools and greater community vigilance.

The police’s ongoing investigation not only aims to address this specific case but also to examine broader issues related to drug culture among youths. In a climate of increasing awareness, there is hope that proactive measures and community collaboration will help to create a safer environment for young people.

Overall, while the incident is indeed concerning, it serves as a critical reminder of the importance of community involvement in safeguarding children, encouraging a united front against the risks posed by drug-related activities.
