A slow‑moving trough of low pressure is bringing a spell of unsettled weather across Fiji through tonight and into Tuesday, with strong east to southeast winds and periods of heavy rain in several districts. A strong wind warning remains in force for a wide area, and a heavy rain alert has been issued for parts of Viti Levu and several outer island groups.
The strong wind warning covers the southern Lau Group, Yasayasa Moala, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, the Yasawa, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, the southern and eastern half of Viti Levu (from the Sigatoka coral coast through Suva up to Rakiraki), southern Bua, and Cakaudrove including Taveuni and nearby smaller islands. Expect east to southeast winds of 35 to 45 km/h, with gusts to 55 km/h at times in these areas. Seas will be rough to very rough there; elsewhere winds will be moderate to fresh from the southeast with moderate to rough seas. Small craft should exercise caution.
A heavy rain alert is in force for the interior, southern and eastern parts of Viti Levu (Rakiriki–Korovou–Naitasiri, Nausori–Suva–Navua, Pacific Harbour to Sigatoka), Cakaudrove and southern Bua provinces, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lomaiviti group, and Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls is expected in these areas, with occasional showers and isolated heavy falls elsewhere including the Lau group. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas.
For populated centres: Navua, Suva and Nausori can expect east to southeast winds 35–45 km/h with gusts up to 55 km/h, occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls, and temperatures around 23°C to 29°C. Sigatoka and the Coral Coast, Tavua and Rakiraki, Savusavu, Nabouwalu and Taveuni are similarly forecast to see gusty southeast winds, occasional heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms; daytime maxima generally range from about 29°C to 31°C depending on location. Yasawa and the Mamanucas will see cloudy periods with isolated afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms, with winds gusting to 55 km/h.
The outlook for Tuesday remains unsettled: occasional rain with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls over Serua–Namosi, Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri–Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu. Elsewhere expect partly cloudy conditions with afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms. Given the wind warning and heavy rain alert, people in low‑lying and flood‑prone areas should take care during heavy downpours and mariners should be prepared for rough to very rough conditions in warned areas.
