Negotiations between Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd and the National Union of Workers concluded successfully last evening, resulting in the end of industrial action by employees. Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Agni Deo Singh announced that discussions wrapped up at approximately 7.30 PM, after four hours of negotiations.

The formal agreement was signed by FTUC General Secretary Felix Anthony and Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd Board Chairman Uraia Waibuta. The deal includes a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) payout that is backdated to cover 2024 and 2025, along with compensation related to terms and conditions of employment that had not been fully met by the employer under the collective agreement.

“The agreement effectively addresses key worker concerns, notably COLA payments and other outstanding issues,” Minister Singh stated. He expressed gratitude toward both the employer and the union for their constructive engagement and ability to reach a resolution.

The Minister praised the commitment to dialogue and cooperation exhibited by both Yaqara Pastoral PTE Ltd and the National Union of Workers, which facilitated a peaceful and responsible resolution to the strike. He underscored that the outcome reflects the significance of good-faith negotiations in resolving workplace disputes and upholding workers’ rights, while also ensuring business continuity.

Additionally, he reaffirmed the Government’s dedication to promoting fair labor practices and urged employers and unions to continue resolving disputes through dialogue and mutual respect, highlighting a positive outlook for future labor relations.
