The decision on whether Charlie Charters will be permitted to travel abroad for work is set to be announced tomorrow. This comes after the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) raised objections against Charters’ request to amend his bail conditions.
During a court appearance earlier today, FICAC’s counsel expressed concerns over the potential risk of Charters fleeing while overseas, noting that he possesses two passports. They contended that this dual citizenship presents a significant flight risk that cannot be adequately addressed through sureties or cash bonds.
Charters is currently facing charges from FICAC involving two counts of aiding and abetting under the Crimes Act of 2009. The outcome of this ruling will be closely monitored, as it holds implications not only for Charters but also for the broader enforcement of accountability measures in the region.
