Raymond Reddy and Nitesh Chand of the South Seas Club engaged in a thrilling contest at the JM Snooker competition held in Lautoka yesterday. Showcasing exceptional talent and sportsmanship, Chand emerged as the champion, taking home the coveted 3-foot JM Trophy along with a cash prize of $1,000. His impressive performance also earned him the highest break award with a notable 42 break score.
Reddy, who put up a strong fight throughout the tournament, finished as the runner-up, walking away with $500 and a trophy for his efforts. The semifinal rounds saw Chand triumph over Lema Matailevu with a score of 3–1, while Reddy excelled with a 3–0 victory against Jope Nukuqamo. Both semifinalists were rewarded with $150 for their commendable performances.
In addition, the quarterfinalists, including Esala Talebula, David Robinson, Navneil Maharaj, and Rajnesh Nand, each received $50 for their participation.
This tournament was organized in memory of Jan Mohammed, a former President and key founder of the South Seas Club, who passed away in 2006. To honor his legacy, Jan Nissar, his son, announced that the JM Snooker competition will become an annual event, commencing in celebration of his father’s birthday on February 15. The event was a great success, attracting players from across Fiji and exemplifying high-quality snooker enriched with a spirit of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
