Fijian Drua halfback Philip Baselala is determined to secure a top-three position on the team as he prepares for the upcoming Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 20 years old, Baselala is currently ranked fourth within the Drua squad, competing for playing time against experienced players such as Frank Lomani, Simione Kuruvoli, and Peni Matawalu.

Baselala expressed his ambitions, stating, “This is one of my main targets for next season, to get more game time.” He highlighted the support he receives from his teammates, especially Frank and Simi, who encourage healthy competition that not only enhances their individual fitness but also strengthens the team’s overall performance.

Despite facing setbacks earlier this season, including a knee injury that sidelined him for the entire year and a wrist injury that required surgery, Baselala has now completed his rehabilitation and is eager to return to the pitch. “I was able to complete my rehab, and I finally got the green light to play again,” he shared.

With his determination and commitment to personal development, Baselala has a promising future ahead in rugby. His journey could inspire many young athletes facing challenges, showing that resilience and teamwork can lead to success.

In summary, Baselala’s readiness to compete for a starting position reflects his promising talent and dedication to overcoming past injuries, creating a hopeful narrative for both his career and the Drua’s success in the upcoming season.
