Renowned coach Maxwell Thaggard, widely known as Babs Khan, has made a notable return to the helm of the Suva football team as head coach. Earlier in the season, Khan had shifted his focus to coaching Navua. However, Saiyad Ali’s return prompted Khan’s departure from Navua, leading him back to Suva after some changes in the coaching panel. This reshuffle saw Khan replace Brian Singh as the head coach of Suva.
Nitin Singh, the president of Suva Football Club, confirmed Khan’s return, sharing the news that he will lead the team alongside the experienced former Rewa, Suva, and national player, Pita Rabo. As Suva prepares to face Labasa in the upcoming round 16 of the Extra Premier League competition, Singh expressed optimism about the team’s future under Khan’s expert guidance.
“The team has been preparing well, and the players are up-to-date with our training schedule. We are eagerly anticipating game day,” Singh commented. He praised the team’s preparation and confirmed the smooth integration of Khan back into the coaching panel, marking a new start for the team. Impressively, Suva currently boasts no injuries among its players, signaling a well-prepared team ready to challenge the formidable Labasa.
Further strengthening Suva’s technical setup is the appointment of Momin Khan as the technical advisor, which promises an enhanced strategy for the team’s upcoming engagements. Suva is set to clash with Labasa at the HFC Bank Stadium in Suva at 3 PM tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Extra Premier League continues to be a battleground with other critical matches. Nasinu faces Tavua at the Uprising Sports ground, while Ba is hosting Navua at Govind Park. Tomorrow’s fixtures include Suva’s meet with Labasa, Nadroga’s face-off with Rewa at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka, and Lautoka’s clash with Nadi at Prince Charles Park.
In the current league standings, Rewa leads with 37 points, closely followed by Labasa with 32 points. Lautoka comes third with 25 points, and Navua holds fourth place with 22 points. Nasinu and Tavua currently reside at the bottom of the table.
Babs Khan’s return to Suva brings a mix of excitement and hope, with the Suva community optimistic about enhanced performances and a possible strong finish in the league. His previous tenures have proven impactful, and supporters are hopeful that his expertise will once again lead Suva to success in this highly competitive season.
