Cloudy periods with brief showers are expected across much of the group, with isolated afternoon and evening thunderstorms capable of producing heavy falls. The heaviest activity is most likely about parts of the main islands and eastern groups, while other districts remain largely fine with only a chance of isolated late showers.
Areas likely to see cloudy spells and brief showers include Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, Cakaudrove, southern Bua, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and Kadavu and adjacent isles. In these districts, thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are possible in the afternoon or evening, so short, intense downpours may occur. Elsewhere across the west and parts of the north the day will be mainly fine, apart from the risk of an isolated afternoon or evening shower or thunderstorm.
Local daytime temperatures are generally in the low 30s, with overnight minimums around the low 20s. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba can expect highs near 33°C today (slightly cooler on Thursday), while Labasa is also around 33°C today. Most other centres including Navua, Suva, Nausori, Natadradave, Korovou, Savusavu, Nabouwalu, Taveuni, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups and Kadavu should see highs near 31°C and lows near 23°C (falling to about 22°C in many areas on Thursday).
Moderate southeast winds are expected across the main islands with moderate seas. Rotuma is under a southeasterly flow with moderate to fresh winds and moderate to rough seas; conditions there will be mainly fine apart from brief showers today, becoming cloudier with some showers on Thursday.
The outlook for Thursday remains much the same: cloudy periods with brief showers for the districts listed above and mostly fine elsewhere, with isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms that could bring heavy falls. Mariners and those planning outdoor activities should take the chance of sudden showers and localized heavy rain into account.
