A trough of low pressure is lying over the Fiji group, bringing a moist east to southeast wind flow and areas of cloud, showers and isolated thunderstorms. The worst of the activity is concentrated over northern and eastern islands today, with another trough expected to approach from the west and affect the group later on Sunday. Localised heavy falls are possible and may lead to flash flooding in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Today, expect occasional showers with isolated thunderstorms and heavy falls across interior, southern and eastern Viti Levu — including Serua, Namosi, Navua-Suva-Nausori, Naitasiri, Tailevu North and Ra–Rakiraki — as well as the Yasawa group, southern parts of Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni, nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere conditions will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms that could bring heavy falls. Showers should gradually ease to scattered activity from tomorrow.
Tomorrow and into Sunday, most western and central areas will see improvement, with fine weather apart from afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Cloudier conditions with some showers are expected to persist over Navua–Suva–Nausori, Tailevu–Naitasiri, Ra–Rakiraki, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands, Cakaudrove and southern Bua provinces, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Afternoons and evenings remain the most likely times for thunderstorms and heavy falls. Winds will be moderate east to southeast, fresh at times today and tomorrow before tending easterly, becoming east to northeasterly and moderate to fresh by Sunday.
Sea conditions will be moderate to rough across the group through the period. Mariners and those planning coastal activities should note the rougher seas in association with the current wind flow and the approaching trough. Rotuma remains mostly fine apart from brief showers under a moderate easterly wind and moderate seas.
Local town notes: Navua, Suva and Nausori will see occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms today, then cloudy periods with some showers tomorrow (min 23°C, max 32°C) and similar on Sunday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba can expect mainly fine conditions apart from afternoon or evening showers and possible thunderstorms (min 22°C, max 33°C). Yasawa and Mamanuca have occasional showers today but are expected to be largely fine from tomorrow onwards. Other centres — including Labasa, Savusavu, Taveuni, Kadavu, Lau and Lomaiviti — will alternate between cloudy periods with some showers and mainly fine intervals, with temperatures generally in the low 20s to low 30s.
