An easterly wind flow prevails over Fiji with a weak trough of low pressure expected to affect the eastern islands later today. That pattern will bring cloudy periods, showers and isolated heavy falls to eastern and some northern parts of the group through tonight and into tomorrow, while most other areas can expect mainly fine conditions with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Showers with isolated heavy falls are most likely over Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby isles. In these areas showers should ease to become occasional from tomorrow. Elsewhere, the day will be fine apart from afternoon or evening showers, but thunderstorms with heavy falls are possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents and visitors in vulnerable locations should remain alert.
Winds are moderating: expect moderate to fresh easterlies today, easing to moderate from tomorrow. Seas are moderate to rough at present and are also expected to ease to moderate by tomorrow. Rotuma continues to be influenced by a weak trough with cloudy periods, some showers and isolated thunderstorms, along with moderate to fresh easterly winds and moderate to rough seas.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the eastern islands named above are expected to see occasional showers and isolated heavy falls. The remainder of Fiji will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers, and thunderstorms with heavy falls remain possible across Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. The risk of localised heavy falls and flash flooding for low‑lying and flood‑prone locations persists into the outlook period.
