An easterly wind flow will dominate Fiji with a weak trough expected to drift over the eastern islands later today, bringing increased cloud and rain for parts of the group. The main impacts will be showers and isolated heavy falls across eastern and northern areas, while most western and interior districts can expect mostly fine conditions with the chance of afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms.
Cloudy periods with some showers and isolated heavy falls are likely today for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri‑Ra, eastern Macuata, Cakaudrove, Taveuni and nearby smaller islands, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, Kadavu and nearby isles. Showers in these areas are expected to ease to occasional from tomorrow. Afternoon and evening thunderstorms with heavy falls remain possible over Viti Levu and Vanua Levu, and localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding in low‑lying and flood‑prone locations.
Elsewhere across the group the day will be mainly fine apart from the usual afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms. Temperatures will be warm in the low 30s in many centres; for example, Navua/Suva/Nausori are forecast a maximum around 31°C today and about 30°C tomorrow with lows near 23°C, while Nadi/Lautoka/Ba and nearby western towns may see highs near 33°C today and similar values tomorrow. Rotuma continues under the influence of a weak trough with cloudy periods, some showers and isolated thunderstorms; Rotuma’s temperatures are around 32°C with overnight lows near 24°C.
Winds are expected to be moderate to fresh from the east today, easing to moderate from tomorrow. Seas will be moderate to rough today and should become moderate tomorrow, so mariners and those planning coastal activities should take care while conditions remain rougher than usual. Given the likelihood of heavy downpours in pockets, residents in low‑lying or flood‑prone areas should be mindful of sudden surface flooding and take precautions where necessary.
Looking ahead to Thursday, the eastern islands and the Lau and Lomaiviti groups can expect occasional showers and isolated heavy falls to continue. The rest of the country will be partly cloudy with afternoon or evening showers and thunderstorms possible, and the risk of localised heavy falls remains for Viti Levu and Vanua Levu.
