Anthony Joshua has returned to training, although the details of his boxing future remain ambiguous. Promoter Eddie Hearn expressed optimism, stating that he “expects” the two-time heavyweight world champion to enter the ring again, especially following a tragic road accident in Nigeria that took the lives of Joshua’s close friends, Sina Ghami and Latif ‘Latz’ Ayodele.
The accident occurred on December 29, leaving the 36-year-old Joshua with minor injuries. Sharing a video of himself back in training, he captioned it “mental strength therapy,” highlighting his commitment to overcoming the challenges he faces. Hearn, who has been with Joshua since his victory at the 2012 Olympics, believes that the boxer’s passion for the sport will ultimately drive him to return.
Hearn acknowledged the emotional and physical challenges Joshua has dealt with, noting, “Physically, it wasn’t easy what he went through either. People probably don’t realize the extent of that.” Although Joshua has recommenced training, he is not yet prepared to fully re-engage in a boxing camp.
At present, while Joshua is donning his gloves once more, fans will have to wait as the countdown to his next fight remains on hold. Despite the uncertainties, the resilience and determination Joshua is demonstrating could lead to a triumphant comeback in the ring, inspiring many along the way.
