Youth are being inspired to pursue their dreams boldly following Akshay Chand’s recent accolade of the Rising Star Award at the ANZ Fiji Excellence in Tourism Awards 2025. Recognized for his exemplary leadership and talent, Chand works with IHG Hotels and Resorts and has established himself as a role model for young professionals under 35 in the tourism sector.
Currently serving as the Area Director of Information Technology for the South Pacific with the IHG Group, Chand acknowledges the significance of teamwork in his achievement. He emphasized, “This is not an individual award, but a collective one. It is thanks to my team’s support — the leadership team at FNPF-owned IHG Hotels, the regional general manager, and the general manager at our Suva properties. Their guidance and support are what have enabled me to achieve this today.”
Chand’s journey in the hospitality industry began a decade ago when he started as an entry-level IT staff member. Throughout his career, he encountered various challenges that he transformed into opportunities for personal and professional growth. In light of his experiences, he encourages young people to have faith in their abilities and remain resilient against obstacles they may face.
He highlighted critical factors for success, urging the youth to harness their creativity, display courage, and trust in their potential. Chand’s story serves as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that with determination and support from others, achieving one’s goals is entirely possible.
