Wainikiti Latuvere Leana has exemplified remarkable resilience and determination throughout her journey to success. On Friday, the 26-year-old celebrated her graduation with a degree in Tourism Studies and Management from the School of Business and Economics at the University of Fiji.
Hailing from Voua Village in Nadroga, with family roots in Balenabelo Village, Ms. Leana currently manages Coastline Fiji in Sigatoka. After finishing high school, she spent seven years working at Jacks of Fiji before deciding to pursue higher education, a decision inspired by her late sister, Savaira Basiyalo.
Ms. Leana reflected on her motivation, stating, “She was the one who motivated me. I wish she were here to witness my achievement.” Balancing work, studies, and family obligations proved to be a challenge, but Ms. Leana remained dedicated to her goal of earning her degree.
“I skipped social functions and church services to complete assignments and study,” she shared. “I’d listen to sermons on the radio later. My goal was to finish my degree.” Despite the mentally taxing journey characterized by sleepless nights spent on assignments and presentations, she persevered.
“A lot of effort went into balancing everything. It was challenging, but in the end, it was all worth it,” she added. Ms. Leana expressed her gratitude to her family, dedicating her achievement to her late sister, parents, and siblings.
Her mother, Makereta Tupou, expressed immense pride during the graduation ceremony, saying, “I cried watching her walk across the stage to receive her certificate. It was a proud moment. We faced many challenges, but with God’s strength, we overcame them.”
This inspiring story serves to remind us that determination and hard work can lead to the realization of one’s dreams, highlighting the importance of family support along the way. It reflects how pursuing education can transform lives and honor the memories of loved ones lost.
