Ablaze Hearts Netball Club has achieved a significant milestone by securing a spot in the Super Grade of the Suva Netball Association competition for the first time. After two years of dedication and hard work, this young team, coached and led by Filomena Korovulavula, has reached the top tier where only the eight best teams compete.
Korovulavula has been mentoring many of these players since they were children, guiding them through their development as they transitioned from primary to secondary school. “This is our first year in the Super Grade, the main grade where only the top eight teams compete,” she said, expressing her excitement for the progress her players have made.
This season, Ablaze Hearts has fielded 15 teams across various divisions, providing opportunities for participation from beginners to elite levels. Filomena noted that while her players are feeling some nerves, participating in such a competitive environment will be invaluable for their growth. “This season is building their confidence, and next year will be even better,” she believes.
Last year, the club was the runner-up in the Suva Netball club competition, and Korovulavula is aiming for more success this season. She has high hopes for her teams and believes that two or three of her grades have strong potential to win titles, despite Lomaiviti Netball being considered the dominant force.
Ablaze Hearts competes across multiple grades such as Angels, Roses, Princess, Development, Premier, Super, Mixed, and Queens, emphasizing the importance of development at a young age. Korovulavula’s commitment to nurturing talent has made a notable impact, underlining the dedication required to grow in the sport.
This achievement for Ablaze Hearts is not only a celebration of their hard work but also a promising indication of a bright future ahead for the club as they continue to inspire young athletes in Suva through their journey in netball.
