Government MP Kalaveti Ravu has urged the public to appreciate the essential contributions of women to their communities. During his response to the President’s address at the Parliament opening, Ravu highlighted the need for an inclusive society that values every individual’s voice and dignity.
This call aligns with ongoing dialogues about women’s involvement in leadership and community activities in Fiji. At the recent Pacific Media Partnership Conference, Minister for Women Sashi Kiran expressed the necessity for the media to shift its focus from simply celebrating women’s achievements to recognizing their roles as influential decision-makers. Kiran pointed out that Fiji has one of the lowest rates of women’s representation in government, emphasizing the pressing need to spotlight female leaders and their significant impacts.
In a similar vein, Ulamila Cakau, Fiji’s Minister for Women, Children, and Social Protection, made remarks during the Fiji Women’s Mock Parliament that urged women to take active roles in their homes to foster positive societal changes. She noted that homes are vital “safe spaces” for women to influence and educate about values and address pressing social issues.
As the conversation around the recognition of women’s roles intensifies, there is optimism that these discussions will inspire tangible actions and greater awareness, ultimately promoting a society that honors women’s contributions across all domains. This movement seeks to enhance the visibility, safety, and representation of women in leadership roles.
The collective voices of these leaders signal a growing commitment to inclusivity and respect for women, paving the way for a future where gender equality and empowerment are prioritized in societal development.
