Vesida Volleyball Team Shocks Community with Stunning Victory!

The Vesida volleyball team made an impressive entrance in the Extra Supermarket Central Community games, emerging victorious against Vunivivi Hills with a score of 15-9 in the women’s final that took place on Saturday.

Head coach Maika Kini revealed that the team began its journey last year under the Mid Central Volleyball Association, but this year they made the strategic decision to join the Nasinu Volleyball Association. This move aims to rejuvenate a formerly champion team that had been inactive for over ten years.

Kini highlighted the team’s commitment to serving the community of Vesida, which is situated four miles from Suva. The team’s primary objective is to engage local youth through sports, steering them away from criminal activities. “Through sports, we not only seek to offer job opportunities but also aim to combat unemployment within the Vesida community,” said Kini.

The team has partnered with several organizations, including community police, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, and the Fiji Sports Council, to work towards their ambitious goals.

Beyond volleyball, Vesida’s facilities have been upgraded to support various sports such as netball, rugby, badminton, and futsal. This expansion caters to the varied interests of the youth in the community, fostering a broader sporting culture.

By providing diverse athletic opportunities, the Vesida volleyball team aspires to develop well-rounded individuals while making a lasting positive impact on their community.

This initiative not only promotes sports but serves as a beacon of hope for youth engagement, illustrating the power of teamwork and community support in transforming lives.
