A slow-moving trough of low pressure to the west of Fiji, combined with a moist northeasterly wind flow, is bringing cloud and showers southeast across parts of the group. The National Weather Forecasting Centre in Nadi advises that showers will be frequent in several areas today, with some heavy falls and a few thunderstorms expected in the southwest and over many islands.
Occasional showers, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms, are forecast for Serua‑Namosi, Navua‑Suva‑Nausori, Tailevu‑Naitasiri, Ra‑Rakiraki, southern Bua and Cakaudrove provinces, Taveuni, Kadavu, and nearby smaller islands, as well as the Lau and Lomaiviti groups. Elsewhere there will be partly cloudy conditions with some showers and isolated afternoon or evening thunderstorms. Localised heavy falls may lead to flash flooding of low‑lying and flood‑prone areas, so residents in susceptible locations should take appropriate precautions.
Winds are expected to remain moderate from the northeasterly sector today, easing slightly to moderate east to northeast on Monday. Seas will be moderate to rough today and moderate on Monday, which could affect small craft and coastal activities. People planning marine or beach activities should exercise caution while conditions persist.
City and island forecasts vary little from the broader outlook. Navua, Suva and Nausori should expect occasional showers, heavy at times with a few thunderstorms, with temperatures around 23 to 31°C and some showers continuing into Monday. Nadi, Lautoka and Ba will see cloudy periods with showers and possible afternoon or evening thunderstorms, highs near 32°C. Labasa and other northern towns are forecast cloudy periods with showers and possible thunderstorms, with maximums around 30–33°C. Taveuni, Kadavu, the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, and the Yasawa/Mamanuca and Sigatoka/Coral Coast areas can also expect periods of heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms.
Rotuma remains under a moist easterly flow with a trough nearby, bringing cloudy periods, some showers and isolated thunderstorms. Moderate easterly winds and seas are expected there, with temperatures from about 23 to 31°C and a similar pattern of occasional showers and isolated thunderstorms on Monday.
