Jerry Tuwai, the former star of Fiji’s rugby sevens team, has expressed his unwavering support for the national squad amidst recent challenges in the World Rugby Sevens Series. Despite some disappointing results, Tuwai remains optimistic, emphasizing that the team is on the right path and capable of overcoming their current hurdles.
Although Fiji’s performances have shown promise, Tuwai highlighted that unforgiving basic errors have hindered the team from achieving essential victories. He is confident that these issues are not insurmountable and anticipates a swift rebound for the players. “As a former rugby player, I will always be biased, but I also see the game from the perspective of a fan,” he stated.
Tuwai underscored the squad’s commitment, asserting that their effort is commendable. He believes that rectifying these fundamental mistakes will pave the way for improvements in upcoming tournaments. “They are performing well at the moment, but it’s those basic errors that cost them the game. I know that they will bounce back,” he said.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist reminded spectators that no team approaches a competition intending to lose. “All teams aim to give their best. Sometimes the opposition simply outperforms. But I truly believe they will come back stronger in the next tournament,” Tuwai remarked.
As the team prepares to regroup and refine their strategies, they will focus on addressing the mistakes made during their recent outings in Cape Town and Dubai. This determination to improve reflects a hopeful outlook for Fiji’s rugby future.
