Ratu Vuniyani Navuniuci, the Tui Nadi, has stepped down from his role as president of the People’s Alliance party. He announced his resignation during the party’s executive council meeting last week.
At the age of 70, Ratu Vuniyani cited two main reasons for his decision. He stated, “Firstly, I have accomplished what I set out to do in forming the party: defeating the FijiFirst party, which was a significant achievement of my leadership.”
He also expressed the need to prioritize his health and well-being. “I do not wish to shoulder the pressures of both being the president and fulfilling my chiefly duties in Nadi. I have chosen to concentrate on my role as Tui Nadi, and now is the appropriate time to entrust the presidency to someone else to carry on the work.”
Ratu Vuniyani dismissed rumors of disagreements within the party as misinformation and expressed gratitude to the members and supporters of the party. The vice president, Ratu Josefa Dimuri, has been appointed as the acting president following his resignation.
