Students at Dogotuki District School in Macuata have received a significant boost in their educational experience thanks to a $13,000 donation from the JP Bayly Trust. This donation has led to the acquisition of much-needed resources including two large water tanks, ten folding tables, twenty mattresses, and seventeen desks with chairs.

The donation was officially handed over on Wednesday by Trust general manager Joshika Lata and Labasa branch manager Satishwar Chand. The school, which accommodates around 150 students from years one to eight, including 50 boarders, has faced challenges with inadequate facilities that have impacted attendance and contributed to dropouts.

Head teacher Sisa Tamani expressed profound gratitude for the support, particularly highlighting the school’s desperate need for a reliable water supply. With the new tanks that provide a total capacity of 20,600 litres, the school is now assured of good, pressurized water, alleviating previous disruptions to classes stemming from water shortages.

The provision of new desks and chairs for Year 1 students, along with mattresses for all boarders, is set to enhance the learning conditions significantly. “With proper beds, our boarders can now enjoy a restful night, helping them focus and perform better each school day,” stated Mr. Tamani, who sees the Trust’s help as a vital answer to the community’s educational needs.

Ms. Lata expressed her pleasure in supporting the school and acknowledged previous partnerships, such as with the Winifred Irving Trust Fund, which aims to improve children’s education and welfare in the region.

This donation marks a pivotal moment in the school’s journey, embodying a hopeful future for the students who will now have an enriched environment to learn and grow. Their experience aligns with broader educational improvements seen recently in other schools across the area, such as the Namuka District School, which benefited from new classrooms provided by the Japanese government. These initiatives collectively highlight a commitment to community enhancement through education, inspiring more active engagement from students in their academic pursuits.
