Tragic Accident Claims Life of 12-Year-Old in Nadi

A tragic incident occurred yesterday in Sabeto, Nadi, where a 12-year-old student lost his life after being thrown from a moving vehicle. The young boy was reportedly among a group of youths traveling in the back tray of a carrier vehicle when it drove over potholes at a high speed. The impact caused him to be ejected from the vehicle, leading to severe injuries after he fell onto the tar-sealed road.

Despite being quickly transported to Sigatoka Hospital, the student unfortunately succumbed to his injuries. This heartbreaking event has drawn attention from local authorities, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations (ACPO) Livai Driu, who expressed deep sorrow over the incident. He emphasized the ongoing concerns surrounding road safety, particularly during the festive season when traffic increases.

ACP Driu highlighted the importance of driver responsibility, lamenting that despite police efforts to ensure safety on the roads, they cannot be present everywhere to monitor behavior. The young boy’s body is currently at Sigatoka Hospital awaiting a post-mortem examination.

This tragedy serves as a poignant reminder of the critical importance of adhering to safety regulations while traveling. It highlights the need for greater awareness and responsibility among both drivers and passengers to prevent such devastating occurrences in the future.

In light of this unfortunate event, may it motivate communities and authorities to work together towards enhancing road safety measures and encouraging safer driving practices, ultimately sparing other families from similar heartache.
