A one-year-old child became the latest victim of a road accident in Naitonitoni, Navua, yesterday. According to Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Mitieli Divuana, the child was with a parent and sibling when he allegedly left home unnoticed and walked onto the road. There, he was struck by a vehicle driven by a 23-year-old man.
SSP Divuana reported that the driver immediately took the child to Navua Hospital, where he was sadly pronounced dead on arrival. Investigations are ongoing, and authorities will also examine the possibility of negligence in this incident.
In light of this tragedy, SSP Divuana has urged parents and guardians to be particularly vigilant in supervising young children, as accidents can happen in just seconds.
