A Fiji Corrections Service employee tragically lost his life last night in a fatal accident on the Queens Highway at Kalokalolevu. The incident occurred around 8:30 PM while he was driving a Corrections Service vehicle, with two other staff members as passengers. Following the accident, emergency responders, including officers from the National Fire Authority, transported the two survivors to CWM Hospital.

This event underscores ongoing concerns regarding road safety in Fiji, which has been a topic of recent discussions, particularly as the current road death toll has seen fluctuations. Just a few days prior, another fatal accident took place on Queen’s Road, resulting in a driver being pronounced dead after losing control of his vehicle. The authorities have been emphasizing the need for heightened awareness about safe driving practices, especially in light of community efforts to reduce road fatalities.

With attention now focused on this incident, it is hopeful that such tragedies will prompt further discussions on improving road safety measures. Authorities are urging all road users to adhere to safety guidelines to create a safer environment for everyone on the roads.

Continued collective efforts from the community and governing bodies can potentially lead to a more conscious driving culture, fostering safer road conditions and ultimately saving lives.
