Weather Watch
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 AM on Thursday, June 5, 2025
Attention, Fiji! Grab your umbrellas and put on those flip-flops because we’re officially under a HEAVY RAIN ALERT across most parts of the archipelago. The coastal inundation alert for Lau and Lomaiviti groups has been cancelled, so you can stop pondering the meaning of “coastal inundation” – for now, at least!
What’s the situation, you ask? Well, a mischievous trough of low pressure is sneaking up from the west, leading to a delightful mix of moisture in the air and clouds that seem to be preparing for an epic rain party. Expect occasional downpours that could turn into heavy rain with a side of squally thunderstorms! These showers will start off in the west and make their grand entrance to the rest of Fiji later today. But don’t fret; temperatures will ease from the west by tomorrow.
Winds will be moderate, giving you that breezy feeling, but watch out for gusts in those lively rain zones! Seas will be moderate to rough—definitely not the day for a romantic sail, unless your idea of romance includes getting soaked!
Looking ahead to Saturday: More occasional rain is in the forecast, along with a sprinkle of thunderstorms, especially for Lau and Lomaiviti. Just when you thought the rain would relent, it’ll ease into brief showers later in the day. For those in Kadavu, Sigatoka, Serua-Namosi, Naitasiri, Tailevu, Rakiraki, Cakaudrove, and Southern Bua: expect cloudy periods and a few snaps of rain. Otherwise, for the lucky ones elsewhere, it looks like fine weather is on the menu! And don’t forget, it’ll get a bit nippy at night.
For the regions:
Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect some cloud cover and a chance of showers! The rain will join the party later today, bringing occasional heavy showers and a few thunder clashes.
Sigatoka/Coral Coast: The rain show will commence from the west, featuring heavy showers and a few thunderstorm guests.
Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Similar to Sigatoka, gear up for heavy rain and a few thunderstorms crashing the festivities.
Tavua/Rakiraki: You guessed it—a forecast of occasional heavy rain and thunderstorms.
Natadradave/Korovou: Brace yourselves for the cloudy season, with some heavy rain and the odd thunderstorm visiting today.
Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Heavy rain is on the agenda, but fear not! Saturday promises some nice weather, with a chance of cool nights.
Labasa: Showers galore, with heavy rain and some thunder keeping the atmosphere lively.
Savusavu: Cloudy skies with the all-important occasional rain and the promise of thunderstorms later today too.
Lau/Lomaiviti: You’ll be part of the heavy rain and thunder show from today onward.
Kadavu: More rain and thunder! What a seductively stormy affair!
Rotuma: A STRONG WIND WARNING ALERT is in play. This means that if you thought the winds were merely breezy, you might want to reconsider your plans. Rough seas are in store, and while there might be some tiny brief showers, the thunderstorm brigade will join from later today.
Let’s all weather this storm together, and remember: Rain makes everything green…and a little soggy! Stay dry (or at least try)!
