Suva Grammar School Alumni in Fiji Police Lead Anti-Drug, Anti-Bullying Campaign at Coca-Cola Games

Assistant Commissioner of Police Aporosa Lutunauga will lead a group of Suva Grammar School old scholars within the Fiji Police Force in a public anti-drug and anti-bullying campaign at this year’s Coca‑Cola Games, organisers confirmed. The former students have sponsored a banner bearing the message “Stop Bullying and Say No to Drugs” that will be prominently displayed throughout the country’s biggest secondary schools athletics meet.

Lutunauga, speaking on behalf of the old scholars, said the decision to take the message to the Games was deliberate because of the event’s nationwide reach. “This is an initiative that was started by the old scholars of Suva Grammar School in the Fiji Police Force. We thought of giving back to the school and starting from where we began,” he said, adding the campaign targets critical issues affecting the nation and the future — school students.

The banner is intended to address more than just Suva Grammar athletes. “We are trying to advocate for no bullying and say no to drugs. That is the main message… these are critical issues affecting not only the nation, but our future and that is the schools,” Lutunauga said, stressing the campaign is aimed at “every student and stakeholder attending the Games.” He noted the annual competition draws schools and supporters not only from Viti Levu but from Vanua Levu and maritime zones, providing an opportunity to reach a wide cross-section of Fiji’s youth.

Organisers expect thousands of athletes, coaches, supporters and family members to attend the Coca‑Cola Games, meaning the banner message will be seen across the event venue and by visiting delegations. Lutunauga said the hope is that students will carry the message back to their communities, sparking conversations and actions to prevent drug use and bullying in schools across the archipelago.

The initiative forms part of a broader effort by police officers who are alumni of various schools to contribute to national development through education and awareness. “It’s not only in the Fiji Police … it is all schools. The old scholars of the various schools… we are in this initiative, in our war against drugs, to try and protect our country,” Lutunauga said. The campaign aligns with renewed community engagement by the Fiji Police Force this year, which has emphasised visibility, youth outreach and crime prevention committees as pillars of preventative policing.

As the Coca‑Cola Games approach, the Suva Grammar old scholars’ banner will join other school-led and community initiatives seeking to use the event’s high profile to influence attitudes among young people. With thousands expected to converge on the track, organisers say the initiative represents a cost‑effective, highly visible way to reinforce messages of safety, respect and healthy choices at a formative time in students’ lives.
