Sustainable Future: South Pacific Tourism Exchange Sets New Standards

The South Pacific Tourism Exchange (SPTE) 2025 is making strides to promote sustainable tourism throughout the region. This year’s event, taking place in Nadi, has seen a remarkable increase in participation, featuring 79 sellers from across the Pacific and 61 international buyers.

Christopher Cocker, CEO of the South Pacific Tourism Organisation, highlighted at the opening ceremony the event’s dedicated focus on sustainable tourism. He noted the importance of fostering connections between the Pacific community and the worldwide tourism market. Cocker stated, “We want sustainable tourism and are focused on attracting high-value, low-impact visitors who respect and contribute to our communities.” This vision aims to ensure that tourism benefits local communities throughout the Pacific.

Participating sellers, like Mereoni Dike from the Solomon Islands, emphasized the opportunity for learning and service enhancement during the exchange. “It’s an eye-opener, especially in the Solomon Islands,” Dike remarked, noting the potential for marketing insights gained through such expos.

Buyer Robin Gayraud, who has attended the event since 2019, expressed that SPTE plays a crucial role in fostering growth and connections within the South Pacific tourism sector.

Overall, SPTE 2025 serves as a favorable platform not just for business transactions, but also for showcasing the rich cultural diversity of the Pacific Islands, offering a gateway to connect on a global scale. The focus on sustainable tourism reflects a positive and forward-thinking approach, promising benefits for both the environment and local communities.

These developments are a hopeful indication of the potential for revitalizing the tourism landscape in the Pacific, showing a shared commitment among stakeholders to adapt and thrive in response to global challenges.
