Minister for Youth and Sports Jese Saukuru has expressed rising alarm over the misuse of social media platforms. He highlighted multiple instances where social media is being weaponized for personal grudges and defamatory purposes.
Mr. Saukuru noted that while the digital realm provides unparalleled connectivity and a space for dialogue, it has increasingly become a site plagued by misinformation. He emphasized that defamation spread via social media can have severe repercussions on individuals’ lives.
“False accusations and malicious gossip can ruin reputations, harm professional relationships, and cause significant emotional turmoil,” he stated.
He encouraged young people to harness social media positively and to drive constructive change within their communities.
