Weather Update: Hold Onto Your Hats!

Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 7:30 PM on Friday, February 21, 2025.

Attention, folks! A STRONG WIND WARNING is still in effect for the land areas of the Northern Division, the northeastern parts of Viti Levu (from Tailevu North through Ra-Rakiraki and up to Tavua), as well as the Yasawa, Mamanuca, Lau, and Lomaiviti Groups. Yes, it seems Mother Nature’s decided it’s high time for some breezy shenanigans!

In addition, we’re keeping our eyes peeled for a HEAVY RAIN ALERT in the Northern Division and Yasawa Group. It might be a great night to gather your ark-building materials – just in case!

Weather Situation: A southeast wind flow is currently reigning over the country. Meanwhile, a low-pressure system is lounging far to the north of Fiji, likely sipping a cocktail, but it’s expected to stir things up while sailing south towards us. Expect gusty winds and a rollicking good time over the next few days!

Forecast until midnight tomorrow for those in the Northern Division and surrounding areas:
Prepare for moderate to fresh southeasterly winds that can’t seem to keep their emotions in check, with strong gusts reaching up to 50 km/h and thrills (we mean gusts) up to 65 km/h making an entrance later tomorrow. Sea conditions? Rough, choppy, and rebellious – just like a teenager!

Rain? Well, from tomorrow, you’ll be sharing your umbrella with some occasional heavy showers that might really bring the house down. Flash flooding is possible (make sure your rubber ducks are sufficiently inflated and on standby!).

Outlook for Sunday: Buckle up, because it’ll feel like nature is trying out for a superhero movie with strong to near gale winds perceived at a staggering 60 km/h with gusts up to a rollicking 75 km/h. Don’t even think about going fishing unless you’re ready for a wild ride!

For specific areas:
– **Navua/Suva/Nausori**: Get ready for showers and possible heavy downpours.
– **Nadi/Lautoka/Ba** and **Sigatoka/Coral Coast**: Expect sun with possible dramatic rainy intermissions, sulking in the afternoons.
– **Yasawa/Mamanuca** and **Labasa**: Moderate winds with an occasional sprinkle of rain.
– **Rotuma**: A storm’s brewing with hefty waves and rains that just won’t quit.

In general, bring your sense of humor and your best raincoat because it seems like we’re in for quite the meteorological rollercoaster. Stay safe and enjoy the show!
