Severe Weather Alert: Heavy Rain and Strong Winds Expected Across Fiji This Weekend

Gather ’round, folks! The weather gods have got a little moody, and a Heavy Rain Warning is now draping its gray wings over the entire Fiji Group. That’s right, put away those sunglasses and grab your favorite umbrella, because it’s about to get wet!

A strong wind warning is doing the cha-cha for our coastal buddies in the eastern and southern regions of Viti Levu – that’s Sigatoka, Coral Coast, Navua, Suva, Korovou, and Rakiraki, along with southern Bua, Cakaudrove Province, Kadavu, and the nearby islands. Yes, Yasawa, Lau, and the Lomaiviti groups, we’re talking to you too!

So, if life gives you rainclouds, make rain dances! A trough of low pressure, along with some sassy clouds and rain, will be sticking around until Sunday. The forecast until midnight is calling for strong east to northeast winds gusting up to 46 km/h. Let’s hope they don’t sweep you off your feet… but hey, if they do, just remember to wear your raincoat!

We’re looking at occasional rain – heavy at times because, honestly, who doesn’t want a water show? And for those thrill-seekers, keep an eye out for a few thunderstorms. You might even want to build that fort made of cushions and snacks, just in case the thunder gets a little too loud.

Heads up for flash flooding in low-lying areas. So, if your house is a boat, you might want to consider some flotation devices!

Now, let’s get specific for our various towns and islands:

– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Expect the classic combo of occasional rain, heavy at times, and a few thunderous roars. Sunday, same weather drama.

– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Rain will be making its appearance, along with a side of thunderstorms. Sunday will be a repeat performance!

– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Rain, heavy enough to put your swimming skills to the test, with thunderstorms tagging along. Same story for Sunday, folks.

– Tavua/Rakiraki: Rain, heavy at times with a dash of thunderstorms. Don’t worry, Sunday will just be a repeat of this weather playlist.

– Natadradave/Korovou: More of the sought-after rain and thunder fun! Why change things up for Sunday?

– Yasawa/Mamanuca: It’s raining fun, heavy at intervals, with thunderstorms for good measure. You guessed it; Sunday is a carbon copy.

– Labasa and Savusavu: Continuous rainy entertainment with an added thunderclap or two. Sunday won’t disappoint either.

– Lau/Lomaiviti and Kadavu: Enjoy the festivities of rain and the occasional thunderous applause! Sunday is just a rerun.

– Rotuma: A trough of low pressure is cozying up with your island today, so expect rain and moderate to fresh winds. But not to worry, you’ll have the same forecast for Sunday.

So there you have it! Strap on your galoshes and prepare for some wet adventures. The rain doesn’t seem to be going anywhere, but hey, at least we can look forward to nature’s version of a water park!
