Weather Update
Issued from the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi at 10:45 am on Wednesday, February 12, 2025
Attention, residents of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu! Grab your umbrellas, put on your rain boots, and embrace your inner weather warrior because a severe thunderstorm warning has officially entered the chat! Get ready for heavy rainfall in the interior regions, from Sigatoka to Suva, and heading all the way to Korovou, plus some playful clouds over southern Vanua Levu, including spots like Savusavu and Wakilevu.
Currently, the winds are blowing in from the north, but don’t let that gentle breeze fool you – a trough of low pressure is lurking south of Fiji, poised to muddy things up by directing some very moist northwesterly winds our way starting tomorrow. Mother Nature loves a dramatic turn of events!
Here’s what to expect before midnight tomorrow across the Fiji group:
The interior of Viti Levu, along with Sigatoka to Navua, and the southern spots on Vanua Levu will see fine weather initially. But hold onto your hats because severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are rumored to crash the afternoon party! Take care in low-lying areas, as localized heavy falls might just have flash floods planning an uninvited visit.
For the Lau and Lomaiviti groups, you’ll also face some cloudiness, showers, and the occasional thunderstorm. Perhaps a perfect day for a cozy indoor activity?
Tomorrow brings a little change as rain from the west will start gathering its forces and spreading across the group. Expect moderate to fresh wind gusts turning into a friendly northwest breeze to accompany the rain. The seas might get moody too, so keep an eye on your inflatable raft if you’ve got one!
Friday’s Forecast: A chance for rain will dance over the Western Division, Macuata, and Northern Bua provinces, not to mention the Kadavu, Lau, and Lomaiviti groups. Isolated heavy falls are looking to make a cameo as well, while cloudy periods and thunderstorms are aiming for afternoon dominance elsewhere.
For various regions:
– Navua/Suva/Nausori: Enjoy the sun while it lasts because severe thunderstorms with heavy rainfall are rolling in for the afternoon/evening.
– Nadi/Lautoka/Ba: Expect fine moments, but don’t be surprised by some brief afternoon showers and thunderous background music.
– Sigatoka/Coral Coast: Beautiful sunny interludes will eventually be disrupted by thunderstorm antics later in the day.
– Tavua/Rakiraki: A fair mix, but keep the umbrella close for possible shower drops.
– Yasawa/Mamanuca group: Generally fine, minus some possible afternoon shower surprises.
– Labasa: Another place to enjoy the sun, but prepare for the possibility of some thunderstorm excitement in the evening.
– Savusavu: Sunshine, then kaboom! Heavy rains and thunderstorms will make their presence known.
– Lau/Lomaiviti: Expect cloudy periods, maybe some showers, paired with the occasional thunderstorm.
– Kadavu: Mostly fine weather, but don’t let your guard down for those pesky afternoon showers.
And for our friends in Rotuma: With a slow-moving trough of low pressure napping just north of you, anticipate cloudy skies with showers and a potentially frothy sea!
Take care and remember: weather may be unpredictable, but your ability to adapt and enjoy life regardless is not!
