Rugby Rising Star Iosefo Namoce Joins Fijian Drua: What’s Next?

Iosefo Namoce, a promising rugby talent and former centre for Suva, has signed a two-year contract with the Swire Shipping Fijian Drua ahead of the upcoming Shop N Save Super Rugby Pacific season. At just 23 years old, Namoce has made an impression in Fiji’s provincial rugby scene and has also shone in Australia, playing as a centre for the Gungahlin Eagles in Canberra’s John I Dent Cup.

Hailing from Nakama in Macuata, Namoce has strong ties to Vuna in Taveuni. He began his rugby journey at Lakeba Rugby in Suva’s Escott Shield competition and gained further recognition in provincial rugby, earning the title of Men’s Rookie of the Year at the Suva Rugby Awards in 2024. Namoce’s skills were also highlighted during his time with the Fiji Airways Fijian 7s team during the 2023 Oceania 7s tournament, where he competently showcased his abilities on an international platform.

“I am feeling a mix of excitement, pressure and nerves but am ready to contribute and make a positive impact at the club next season,” Namoce shared, expressing his enthusiasm for this new chapter in his career. His familiarity with other Drua players, including development player John Muller, further positions him well for integration into the team.

Baden Stephenson, General Manager of Rugby for Fijian Drua, welcomed Namoce’s signing, stating, “We are very excited about Iosefo joining the Fijian Drua. His attributes align perfectly with our playing style and identity. His journey has had its challenges, but I am confident our rugby environment will fast-track him into becoming a quality Super Rugby Pacific player.”

This signing reflects the Fijian Drua’s commitment to nurturing local talent and integrating them into professional rugby. Namoce’s achievement serves as an inspiration to aspiring athletes in Fiji, showing the rewarding outcomes that can come from hard work and determination.

As the season approaches, fans are eagerly anticipating the contributions of Namoce and his fellow teammates, hoping for a successful campaign for the Drua.
