The Fiji Sports Council has reinforced its commitment to grassroots sports development with a renewed partnership with Rooster Chicken, announced in Suva yesterday. This collaboration designates Rooster Chicken as the official sponsor for the Grassroots Fiji 7s Rugby Tournament and the FSC End-of-Year Volleyball Festival, two significant events focused on community-level sports engagement in the country.
Scheduled for December 18–19 at the HFC Bank Stadium and FMF Gymnasium, these two-day events aim to uplift young athletes, foster community involvement, and create localized platforms for emerging sports talent. The Grassroots Fiji 7s will include 24 men’s teams, 12 under-20 teams, and 8 women’s teams, while the Volleyball Festival expects participation from 24 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams.
These competitions not only offer young players access to professional facilities but also promote essential values such as discipline and teamwork, laying the foundation for long-term athletic growth. FSC chief executive Gilbert Vakalalabure emphasized the importance of this partnership, stating that Rooster Chicken’s support is vital for the advancement of grassroots development initiatives.
Vakalalabure expressed gratitude towards Rooster Chicken, highlighting that their investment aligns with the Council’s mission to develop young talent and enhance community engagement. He noted that the partnership enriches both the athlete and spectator experience, ensuring these events remain significant highlights on Fiji’s annual sports calendar.
Rooster Chicken, part of Future Farms, has a longstanding history of supporting local sports. The company recognizes that community competitions are crucial for identifying and nurturing the next generation of athletes who could eventually represent Fiji on national and international stages. Through this partnership, both organizations aim to create a sustainable sports ecosystem that encourages youth participation and development.
