Athletes from Queen Victoria School participated in a community clean-up initiative ahead of the upcoming 2025 Coca-Cola Games, joining the Minister for Environment, Mosese Bulitavu, at My Suva Park. This clean-up is part of the National Anti-Litter Campaign aimed at promoting environmental stewardship among citizens.
During the event, Minister Bulitavu praised the QVS athletics team for their leadership and commitment to community service, stating, “Vinaka QVS athletics team for championing Environmental Stewardship. Thank you for displaying leadership through community service.” This initiative aligns with the ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change to promote a culture of responsibility regarding littering.
The Coca-Cola Games, scheduled for April 24-26, are anticipated to attract significant participation, emphasizing the importance of waste management. Previous announcements from the Minister have highlighted measures to penalize littering during the event, with enforcement officers monitoring the venue to encourage a clean environment.
This clean-up effort not only showcases the school’s dedication to environmental responsibility but also reflects a broader trend within Fiji, where young athletes are encouraged to play an active role in their communities. As the Coca-Cola Games approach, both the clean-up initiative and the planned events signal a positive outlook for student engagement in promoting sustainable practices and showcasing athletic talent.
Through such community efforts, the anticipation surrounding the Coca-Cola Games fosters a hopeful atmosphere where both environmental responsibility and athletic excellence can thrive together.
