A suspect was taken into custody last night following an incident at the Nadonumai roundabout, where he was apprehended for allegedly possessing illicit drugs. During the arrest, the individual reportedly threatened one of the police officers involved.
With assistance from the K-9 Unit, law enforcement discovered a clear plastic wrapper and zip lock bags containing branches and leaves believed to be marijuana.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, ACP Livai Driu, emphasized that drug arrests are a regular occurrence and noted the heightened efforts to combat drug trafficking during the festive season. He stated that the Fiji Police Force plans to increase its vigilance against the transportation and distribution of illicit drugs across the country during this time.
“We are specifically targeting individuals suspected of drug-related activities. We will be inspecting drug hotspots and monitoring vessels and vehicles that may be active during this festive period,” he affirmed. “Surprise stop checks will continue for any suspicious individuals or vehicles. Our commitment to this drug war remains strong, and we encourage the community’s support in our ongoing efforts.”
This proactive approach by law enforcement highlights a commitment to ensuring safer communities and maintaining public health during a time when social activities tend to increase. The police’s call for community partnership reflects a hopeful direction towards greater public safety and collective responsibility in the fight against drug abuse.
