Checkpoints will continue to be established across the country as police maintain heightened operations throughout the festive season. Assistant Commissioner for Police Operations, Livai Driu, emphasized that the Fiji Police Force is committed to ensuring safety and security on the roads, particularly during this busy time of year.

Driu mentioned that since last month, the police have stepped up their operational efforts to foster a secure environment during the holidays. He noted the presence of checkpoints acts as a deterrent for individuals with ill intentions while serving to alert drivers about the importance of prioritizing both their safety and that of their passengers.

These checkpoints play a crucial role in the broader enforcement efforts, allowing officers to confiscate illegal drugs, apprehend individuals lacking proper documentation, and address issues like overcrowding in vehicles. Driu highlighted that officers have successfully intercepted drivers operating vehicles while under the influence of alcohol.

The Assistant Commissioner urged the public to remain patient during these safety checks, reiterating that the primary goal of these checkpoints is to protect all road users.

This initiative not only ensures immediate safety but also promotes a culture of responsible driving, which is crucial for the well-being of individuals and families traveling during the holiday season. With ongoing police efforts, there is optimism for a safer festive period ahead, as communities come together to uphold road safety.
