The Pacific Forensic Working Group (PFWG) meeting commenced today, emphasizing the need to bolster forensic capabilities throughout the region. The three-day event is hosted by Acting Commissioner of Police Mesake Waqa and features participation from forensic representatives from 16 Pacific Island nations, including notable attendees from Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, and Papua New Guinea.
In his opening remarks, Commissioner Waqa pointed out the evolving nature of crime, which necessitates the adoption of contemporary investigative methods. He encouraged attendees to align standards, enhance governance structures, and forge enduring partnerships that extend beyond the conference.
The PFWG, which is supported by the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police and the Australian Federal Police, seeks to promote sustainable initiatives aimed at building forensic capacity across the Pacific. This meeting represents a significant step towards equipping the region with the necessary tools and knowledge to effectively tackle the increasing challenges posed by modern crime.
