Dr. Raijeli Taga has been officially appointed as the Acting Permanent Secretary to the Office of the Prime Minister. This announcement was made by Public Service Commission Chairperson Luke Rokovada.
Dr. Taga, who previously held the position of Permanent Secretary for Lands and Mineral Resources, is currently in the process of transitioning duties to the newly appointed Permanent Secretary for Lands, Paula Cirikiyasawa. Meanwhile, Parmesh Chand, the Permanent Secretary for the Civil Service, is serving as the acting Permanent Secretary for the Office of the Prime Minister until Dr. Taga takes over in two weeks.
This appointment follows the recent resignation of Pita Wise, who stepped down from her role last week due to personal reasons. The Prime Minister has indicated that he received a complaint against Wise, which he subsequently referred to the Ministry of Civil Service.
Prime Minister Rabuka stated that it is ultimately up to the complainant to escalate the matter to the Police, as his role was only to notify the Ministry of Civil Service.
When asked why the Public Service Commission is not involving the Police in Wise’s case, Rokovada reiterated that it is the complainant’s choice to take such action, stressing that it is a personal decision.
