The Government has invested over $36,433 to enhance rural connectivity with the completion of the Sawani footcrossing project in Naitasiri. The initiative was officially handed over to the community by Sakiasi Ditoka, the outgoing Minister for Rural and Maritime Development. He emphasized the footcrossing’s significant role in improving transportation access and community resilience, especially during natural disasters.
Mr. Ditoka highlighted that this project exemplifies the collaborative spirit among the church, local community, and government, stating, “This initiative further demonstrates the strong connection and co-operation between the three pillars of our society.” The footcrossing is set to ease movement for residents, particularly benefiting women, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, by connecting 349 villagers across 60 households.
The minister reiterated the ministry’s commitment to engaging with rural communities to identify further development priorities. He expressed the Government’s dedication to addressing community needs and enhancing the impact of its programs through robust village leadership. “The Government remains committed and will not tire of pursuing initiatives such as this throughout our nation,” he assured.
This investment reflects a continued focus on infrastructure that strengthens rural communities, promoting safety and accessibility for all.
