Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka has announced the passing of Vatimi Rayalu, the Minister for Agriculture and Waterways. The confirmation came following a notification from the Minister for Health, Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu. In his statement, Rabuka emphasized that the Cabinet and Government will adhere to the family’s wishes and uphold traditional customs during this period of mourning.

Mr. Rayalu tragically passed away last night after being rushed to the CWM hospital due to a sudden illness. The Prime Minister urged the public to keep Vasiti, Mr. Rayalu’s family, in their prayers, acknowledging the profound loss they are experiencing.

This news comes in a somber context, as the nation has recently faced other significant losses, including the passing of influential figures like Ratu Ilaitia Tuisese, a revered member of the rugby community and former government leader. Such losses resonate deeply within the corridors of power and across the Fijian community.

The passing of Mr. Rayalu is not just a loss for the government, but also for the agricultural sector and the people he served. His contributions to Fijian agriculture and waterways have been vital, and he will be remembered for his dedication and service to the nation.

In this difficult time, there is a collective opportunity for the nation to come together, to reflect on the legacies left behind by these leaders, and to continue their work towards improving Fiji’s future.
