Safer Journeys: New Engine Boosts Education Access for Galoa Island Kids

Children on Galoa Island will soon enjoy safer and more efficient transportation, thanks to a new Yamaha 40-horsepower outboard engine valued at $7,190, presented by Minister for Education, Aseri Radrodro. This addition aims to improve access to education for students at Galoa Island Primary School and Kindergarten, particularly during adverse weather conditions.

Minister Radrodro emphasized that this initiative aligns with the coalition government’s commitment to enhance educational accessibility for students in remote areas. He highlighted the importance of reliable transportation, which is essential for ensuring that children can reach their schools safely.

During his visit, the Minister held a talanoa session with the community, allowing residents to voice the challenges they face, further reflecting the government’s dedication to addressing the needs of those living in isolated regions.

This announcement mirrors similar efforts across Fiji, such as the recent donation of boats and engines to other schools in maritime communities, including Rewa Secondary School and Navesi Primary School. These initiatives are part of a broader strategy to provide equitable educational opportunities and enhance transportation options for students, ensuring that geographical barriers do not impede their access to quality education.

Overall, the introduction of the outboard engine on Galoa Island is a positive step toward fostering a supportive educational environment where every child has the opportunity to thrive, reinforcing the importance of community involvement in improving educational resources.
