Two individuals facing murder charges related to the death of a Fiji-born Canadian citizen have had their verdict delayed until February 6, 2025. Salimoni Lagicere and Edward Nand were scheduled to hear the judgment regarding the murder of Narend Chand, but the decision has been postponed by Justice Siainiu Fa’alogo Bull of the Suva court.
Chand was allegedly lured to Fiji under false pretenses, believing he was meeting a woman he had been in contact with on social media. Unbeknownst to him, the woman’s profile was a ruse set up by one of the accused. Following this, it is alleged that the two men planned to rob Chand. Tragically, his body was later discovered in the Waimaro River near Waito Settlement.
The case is being prosecuted by the Director of Public Prosecutions, with Zenith Zunaid representing the state. Lagicere’s defense is handled by lawyer Loqi Cati, and Nand is represented by lawyer Sunil Gosai.
As the situation unfolds, it underscores the serious nature of online deception and its potential real-world consequences. The judicial process is essential in ensuring that justice is served for the victim and their family.
Moving forward, it is crucial for individuals to remain vigilant about online interactions, fostering a community where safety and awareness are prioritized.
