The Moce Cricket team is asserting its prowess in the ongoing 2025 National Easter Cricket Tournament, having achieved two consecutive victories without a defeat. They kicked off the tournament with a significant win against Nadi, prevailing by 41 runs. In their second game, they followed up with an 18-run victory over Lakeba 1, bolstering their standing in the competition.
Team manager Ilai Malawaci praised the players’ dedication and hard work, noting that the squad mainly comprises university students from Suva, with one player journeying all the way from Lau to compete. Malawaci expressed his pride in their performance, particularly as they faced strong opponents in their pool games.
“It’s been a positive week for the boys, securing wins in both matches,” Malawaci commented. He highlighted the notable achievement of defeating an unbeaten Nadi side, which added pressure but ultimately fueled their determination to win against Lakeba 1.
These accomplishments mirror Moce’s recent successes, as seen in their victory at the 2024 Fiji Secondary School National Men’s U19 Cricket Tournament, where they also topped the charts and had several players selected for the Fiji national team. This ongoing success illustrates the rising standard of cricket in Fiji and the community support that nurtures local talent.
Positive trends in grassroots cricket development, such as those highlighted in the recent performances of the Moce team, not only bolster competition at this level but also inspire younger generations to engage with the sport, promising a bright future for cricket in the region.
